When we ask the three basic questions about Jesus—who he was, what his message was, and what he hoped to accomplish—we get one answer from the fourth century Christian creeds and a different answer that has emerged from the studies begun by Enlightenment scholars of the eighteenth century and continuing to the work of leading biblical scholars today.
